| Hybrid cars dangerously quiet for pedestrians: US blind group "The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) said hybrid cars pose a risk to the blind, children, the elderly, cyclists and distracted pedestrians. The group said it conducted tests with blind people. "We had the car drive by in different situations, to see wether or not people could hear it and use the sound of the car to safely cross the street, and they could not. The car was just silent," NFB spokesman John Pare told AFP." Ok. Got it. | | |
| "I knew that America would never invest the necessary funds or energies in rehabilitation of its poor so long as Vietnam continued to draw men and skills and money like some demonic, destructive suction tube⦠A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death." -Martin Luther King, Jr. The Cost of the war in Iraq thus far: $364,137,861,298 | | |
| I write this as we drive through the worst part of the country: West Texas. On a brighter note and my reason for the post was to let everyone know that the movie, The Painted Veil, with Ed Norton, was one of the best movies I've seen in the past couple of years. I absolutely loved it! I learned this week what the expression "to make whoopee" was, and well, it's just funny. Here's a cool discussion: If heaven and hell didn't exist, would you still follow Jesus? Go see The Painted Veil. | | |
| We saw Blood Diamonds the other day. Unbelievable. I encourage everybody to go and see it. Granted there is much violence and language, sometimes that's what it takes to get us to listen and open up our eyes. "If you're not angry, you're not paying attention." Katie and Don are home, Praise the Lord! Go here to this link, and see the pictures of the Christmas party at the orphanage they worked at!

| At least 145 die in deadliest attack of Iraq war. Is anybody sick and tired of all of this bloodshed? Every day I wake up only to see that "6 die Iraq today" "13 die in Shiite mosque bombing" "3 soldiers killed by car bomb" etc etc etc etc etc. It makes my heart hurt. It makes my heart hurt for those affected by this; the families, children, grandparents whose loved ones are now gone. How long must this go on?
"'Who are my mother and brothers?' (Mark 3:33) He had a new definition of family, rooted in the idea that we are adopted as orphans into the family of God and that this rebirth creates a new kinship that runs deeper than biology or geography or nationality. Rebirth is about being adopted into a new family - without borders. With new eyes, we can see that our family is both local and global, including but transcending biology, tribe, or nationality, a renewed vision of the kingdom of God with brothers and sisters in Afghanistan and Iraq." -Irresistible Revolution we are "bound by allegiances and loyalties which are broader and deeper than nationalism...This call for a worldwide fellowship that lifts neighborly concern beyond one's tribe, race, class, and nation is in reality a call for an all-embracing and unconditional love for all." -MLK We must feel the same anger and pain for each Iraqi death, as we do when we hear an American soldier die. "They are just as precious, no more, no less. In our rebirth, every life lost in Iraq is just as tragic as a life lost in New York or D.C." Let us remember to pray for these Iraqi families. That the God of mercy, and of Peace, will bring comfort and healing that only He can bring. May we cry out for peace, for mercy, for non-violence in our world, and may our cries for Peace ring louder than our cries for war. | | |
